Welcome to Camulos Farm

We want every rider and family to feel comfortable and prepared before arriving at the farm. The information below covers what to wear, what to bring, what to expect during your lesson, important farm safety rules, scheduling policies, and directions for finding us.

Camulos Farm is located within a working equestrian facility, so please take a few minutes to review this information before your first visit. Horses, riders, children, dogs, vehicles, and farm equipment all share the property, and everyone’s cooperation helps us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment.

IMPORTANT: The speed limit on the farm is 5 MPH MAXIMUM. Please drive slowly at all times.

Getting Here & Parking

Please do not rely on Google Maps to take you directly to Camulos Farm. GPS may lead you to the wrong entrance.

If using GPS, enter Devil Mountain Nursery as your destination. We share the same driveway. Once you enter the driveway, stay to the right to continue onto the farm rather than entering the nursery.

Camulos Farm is located at Rancho Sierra Vista. After entering the property, park in the designated parking areas near the veterinarian’s office and bathrooms. From there, cross the racetrack and walk through the large brown barn marked A, B, C and D. Continue along the white fencing to the right. You’ll find the Camulos Farm office in the barns known as “The Annex.”

Please remember: the speed limit everywhere on the property is 5 MPH MAXIMUM. Horses and pedestrians always have the right of way.

What to Wear

Proper attire is important for both safety and comfort around horses.

For an Assessment Lesson or first visit, riders should wear:

• Closed-toed shoes or boots — boots with a small heel are preferred.
• Long pants — jeans or riding pants are recommended.
• A collared shirt or appropriate fitted riding shirt.
• An approved riding helmet must be worn whenever mounted. Camulos Farm can provide a helmet for new riders when needed.

If you choose to continue with regular lessons, we will discuss appropriate riding attire and equipment with you before you purchase anything. There is no need to buy expensive riding gear before your first lesson.

For safety, please avoid sandals, open-toed shoes, shorts, loose or flowing clothing, and excessive jewelry while working around or riding horses.

What to Bring

You don’t need much to get started! For your visit to Camulos Farm, please bring:

• Water — especially during warmer weather.
• A snack if needed, particularly for younger riders who may be spending additional time at the farm.
• Completed and signed waivers if they have not already been submitted.
• Carrots or apples for the horses are welcome, but completely optional. Please cut treats into smaller pieces for ease of swallowing.

Please leave valuables at home whenever possible. Personal belongings brought onto the property are the responsibility of the owner. This is also consistent with the personal-property provision in your release.

The most important thing to bring is a willingness to learn—not just about riding, but about the horse you’ll be working with.

What to Expect From Your Lesson

At Camulos Farm, a riding lesson is about much more than the time spent in the saddle. Riders learn to understand, care for, and communicate with the horse as part of the complete lesson experience.

Students will learn how to groom and prepare their horse for riding, followed by individualized riding instruction appropriate to their experience, ability, and goals. Lessons also incorporate horsemanship, safety, communication, and an understanding of how the rider’s actions affect the horse.

After riding, students learn how to properly untack, groom, and care for their horse before putting them away. These skills are an important part of becoming a knowledgeable and responsible horseperson.

Because this preparation and aftercare are part of the learning process, please plan to spend approximately 1½–2 hours at the farm for a typical lesson visit, even though the scheduled private lesson itself is approximately one hour.

Our goal is not simply to teach someone how to ride. We want our students to develop confidence, responsibility, respect for the horse, and a genuine partnership built through communication and understanding.

Parents, Guardians & Visitors

Parents and guardians are welcome at Camulos Farm. For younger riders, we generally prefer that one parent or responsible adult accompany the student during the lesson. This helps keep the barn and riding areas quiet and allows the student to focus on instruction.

If you need to bring siblings, additional family members, or other visitors, please check with Sara in advance. A working horse facility has moving horses, vehicles, equipment, dogs, and other activity, so visitors—especially children—must remain supervised and follow all farm safety instructions.

Children may not run, climb on fencing, enter stalls or paddocks, approach horses, or wander through the property without permission and appropriate supervision.

Parents are encouraged to watch and enjoy their rider’s progress, but during instruction, please allow Sara to coach the student directly. Questions are always welcome before or after the lesson.

For minors, a parent or responsible adult should remain on the property for the duration of the lesson unless another arrangement has been discussed with Sara in advance.

Lesson Scheduling, Cancellations & Makeups

Camulos Farm operates primarily on reserved private lesson times. When a lesson is scheduled, that time is held specifically for that student.

24-Hour Cancellation Policy
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice are considered used and are not eligible for a makeup, except in the case of illness, family emergency, or another circumstance discussed with Sara.

Monthly Lesson Packages
Monthly packages are intended to provide regularly scheduled lessons within a 30-day period. Lessons should be taken during that package period whenever possible.

Makeup Lessons
When a lesson is missed because of illness, family emergency, weather, or another approved circumstance, an eligible makeup lesson may be scheduled within 60 days of the original missed lesson. Makeup lessons are subject to availability and should be arranged with Sara.

Weather & Horse Welfare
Horseback riding is an outdoor sport, and weather conditions can change quickly. Decisions regarding heat, rain, wind, footing, or other weather-related concerns may be made the morning of the scheduled lesson.

Camulos Farm may also modify, reschedule, or cancel a lesson when Sara determines that conditions are unsafe for the rider or horse.

Late Arrivals
Please arrive promptly for your scheduled lesson. A late arrival may result in a shortened lesson so that subsequent students are not delayed.

Horse Welfare & Lesson Horse Changes

The welfare of our horses always comes first. Horses are athletes and individuals, and there may be times when a horse is unable to participate in a scheduled lesson because of lameness, soreness, illness, behavior, workload, or another concern.

When appropriate, another suitable Camulos Farm horse may be substituted so the lesson can continue. Riding different horses can also be an important part of a rider’s education, helping students develop adaptability, feel, and confidence.

Sara reserves the right to modify a horse’s workload, change the planned lesson, substitute another horse, or discontinue mounted work whenever she believes it is in the best interest of the horse or rider.

Students are expected to treat every horse with patience, respect, and appropriate care. Camulos Farm does not tolerate rough handling, excessive punishment, or behavior that compromises the welfare of a horse.

Sometimes the best lesson for the day may not be the lesson we originally planned. Good horsemanship means listening to the horse in front of us and making decisions accordingly.

Farm Safety Rules

Camulos Farm is located within a busy, working equestrian facility. Horses, riders, children, dogs, vehicles, tractors, trailers, and farm equipment may all be moving throughout the property. Please remain aware of your surroundings and follow these safety rules at all times.

5 MPH MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT

Around the Horses
Please do not enter stalls, paddocks, arenas, grooming areas, or other horse spaces without permission. Never feed, handle, or approach a horse without first checking with Sara or a Camulos Farm staff member.

Children & Visitors
Children must remain supervised. Running, yelling, climbing on fences or gates, and other behavior that may frighten horses is not permitted.

Dogs & Other Pets
Please check with Sara before bringing a dog or other pet to the farm. Horses can react unexpectedly to unfamiliar animals, even when the pet is friendly or well behaved.

Vehicles & Equipment
Be alert for tractors, trucks, trailers, bicycles, farm machinery, and horses moving throughout the property. Never assume that a horse or rider can safely move out of your way.

Follow Staff Instructions
If Sara or another authorized person asks you to stop, move, wait, or leave an area for safety reasons, please do so immediately. Conditions around horses can change quickly.

When in doubt, ask. We would much rather answer a question than have someone unknowingly put themselves, another person, or a horse in an unsafe situation.

Required Waivers & Releases

All riders and participants must have a completed waiver and release on file with Camulos Farm before participating in riding lessons or other horse-related activities.

Adult Participants
Riders and participants age 18 and older must complete the Camulos Farm Adult Waiver, Release & Indemnification Agreement. 

Minor Participants
Riders under age 18 must have the Camulos Farm Minor Release & Indemnification Agreement completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian. 

Please complete the appropriate form before your first visit and bring the signed copy with you unless other arrangements have been made with Sara.

Payments, Packages & Account Policies

Payment Due Dates
Monthly bills are due on the 1st of each month. Payments received after 6:00 PM on the 5th are considered late and are subject to a $15 late fee per horse.

Returned Payments
Returned checks are subject to a $25 returned-check fee. Outstanding balances must be resolved before additional services may be provided.

Monthly Packages
Monthly packages reserve recurring space in the Camulos Farm schedule and are intended to be used within the applicable package period. Lessons do not accumulate indefinitely. Eligible makeup lessons are governed by the 60-day makeup policy described above.

Cancellation of Monthly Packages
Camulos Farm requires 30 days’ notice to discontinue a recurring monthly package, including lesson, training, and horse-care packages.

Expenses Paid on Behalf of an Owner
Any money advanced by Camulos Farm for necessary horse care, supplies, services, or upkeep will be added to the owner’s account and is subject to a 15% administrative fee.

Additional Expenses
Feed, supplements, show expenses, transportation, veterinary or farrier expenses, and other costs incurred on behalf of a privately owned horse are not included unless specifically stated in the applicable service package.

Lessons, training appointments, evaluations, and other services are by appointment. Please contact Sara before coming to the farm outside of a previously scheduled lesson or appointment.

Observed Holidays
Camulos Farm observes the following major holidays:

New Year’s Day • Easter • Memorial Day • Independence Day • Labor Day • Rosh Hashanah • Yom Kippur • Thanksgiving • Christmas

Holiday schedules may affect regular lessons and training. When necessary, Sara will communicate schedule changes directly with affected clients.
